It is often said of Asahikawa, particularly by the locals, that it has four perfect seasons. What exactly does that mean?
Most non-tropical places experience four distinct seasons (no surprises there!), but winter for example may not include snow (most places in Australia), and autumn may just be a warm winter (not much colour).
By contrast, Asahikawa and Hokkaido in general have four perfect seasons, bitterly cold and snowy in winter, hot and often humid in summer, incredibly colored foliage in autumn, and beautiful spring blooms after the long cold.
It is one on the rare places where there really is something different in all seasons ...
